Hello 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade educators!
The Utah Valley Center for Constitutional Studies Civic Thought & Leadership Initiative, in partnership with the Southeast Education Service Center (SESC), is proud to announce our next On-site Civics at the USU Moab campus in Moab, Utah, for 4th & 6th on Thursday, March 19, 2026, and 3rd & 5th on Friday, March 20, 2026.
The all-day elementary training will be specifically designed for 3rd-grade teachers (“civics” strand 1 of the 2026 new social studies core curriculum) and 5th-grade teachers (“civics” strand 3 of the 2026 social studies core). Teachers will be divided by grade, and each teacher will receive a “We the People” textbook specific to their grade level, which covers all of the civics standards for their grade. The training will be a combination of content and teaching strategies designed for your students. Teachers will also receive a historical atlas that is a great resource as you teach the remaining core strands.
There is no cost for you to attend, and participating teachers will receive:
A "We the People" textbook that contains content about the founding of our country and the current government
A historical atlas
All materials, handouts, and graphic organizers needed to teach these concepts
.5 MIDAS credit
Lunch
Snacks and drinks
A $100 gift card for completing the pre-readings and attending the full training
Sub reimbursement for the day (UVU will pay your district the cost of your substitute, request your sub as you normally do once you register)
Mileage reimbursement for teachers traveling over 20 miles one way to attend
Hotel arrangements can be made for those traveling 90+ miles one way to attend
The class is taught by current and former master classroom teachers, content specialists, and UVU staff.
Space is limited with registration closing on March 6th, or when we reach capacity for each grade.
