FERPA NOTIFICATION:Southeast Education Service Center (SESC)
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords parents and students over 18 years of age ("eligible students") certain rights with respect to the student's education records. These rights are:
1. The Right to Inspect and Review:
You have the right to inspect and review the student's education records within 45 days of the day the Southeast Education Service Center (SESC) receives a request for access. Parents or eligible students should submit a written request to the SESC Executive Director or designated official that identifies the record(s) they wish to inspect. The SESC official will make arrangements for access and notify the parent or eligible student of the time and place where the records may be inspected.
2. The Right to Request an Amendment
You have the right to request the amendment of the student’s education records that you believe are inaccurate or misleading. To ask SESC to amend a record, the request must:
Be submitted in writing to the SESC Executive Director.
Clearly identify the part of the record to be changed.
Specify why it is inaccurate or misleading.
If SESC decides not to amend the record, SESC will notify the parent or eligible student of the decision and advise them of their right to a hearing. Additional information regarding the hearing procedures will be provided at that time.
3. The Right to Consent to Disclosures
You have the right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information (PII) contained in the student's education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent. The following may be disclosed without prior consent:
a) Directory Information: SESC designates the following as Directory Information: Student’s name, student ID number, address (including email), phone number, date of birth, grade level, extracurricular participation, awards or honors, photograph, video or digital images, height and weight (if a member of an athletic team), previous school attended, dates of attendance, and parent’s name.

b) SESC Officials: SESC officials with "legitimate educational interests" may access records. An official is a person employed by SESC as an administrator, supervisor, instructor, or support staff; a person serving on the SESC Board of Directors; or a person/company with whom SESC has contracted to perform a special task (such as an attorney, auditor, medical consultant, or therapist).
